WordCamp Asheville 2015

July 27, 2015 by Status Forward

Status Forward is proud to have been a sponsor and presenter at the second annual WordCamp Asheville conference held on the UNCA campus this past weekend.

This year’s theme was “connections”, which we can appreciate having made many connections in the WordPress community locally and globally throughout the years.  We enjoyed networking with other WordPress designers and developers and taking in the many presentations.

Nick and Laurel’s presentation, “Your Theme is Showing”, focused on the differences between custom website design and development with WordPress vs. using pre-made or boxed themes.  The talk addressed the many benefits of building a custom site around content instead of forcing content into a pre-made theme.  We discussed the importance up-front planning in our overall process, showed a couple of examples of what is possible with custom work, and briefly went over our method of developing on the Genesis framework.

In addition to the presentation, Nick was one member of a four-person panel discussing design and answering questions from attendees during the final session of the event.

Check out the slides from our talk, and if you were in attendance and have any follow up questions for us, feel free to get in touch.
